Dani Olmo has been RB Leipzig’s standout player this season and Alex Calaff is reporting via SPORT that the German team is now struggling to retain the attacking midfielder beyond the current season.
It must be noted that Olmo has been on Barcelona’s agenda ever since last year’s transfer window. The Spaniard was being targetted to the extent that Barcelona even made official enquiries, but had to back out owing to financial limitations.
So far this season, the 25-year-old has scored eight goals and five assists across all competitions and given that his termination clause stands at €60 million, Leipzig are running out of ideas to retain him.
Barcelona need to stretch
Although Barcelona may find the release clause unattainable, it is not deterring Premier League powerhouses who have fixed their gaze on the attacking midfielder.
Reports suggest that Manchester City have set sights on the former Barça talent and are contemplating triggering his release clause this summer.

With such fierce competition in the mix, it seems evident that if Barcelona are adamant about retaining Olmo’s services, they will need to extend their financial capabilities to lure him back to Catalonia.
Meanwhile, as far as RB Leipzig are concerned, they face an uphill battle in replicating their successful retention of Olmo last summer, where he emerged as a linchpin for the team.
At 25 years old, and with the Euro Cup looming, his valuation could skyrocket and in such a scenario, it would be exceedingly challenging for him to commit to a team vying for fourth place in the Bundesliga, especially with contenders like Borussia Dortmund in the mix.
If Leipzig finish out of the UEFA Champions League spot, it can be assumed that Olmo might push for an exit in the summer.
