Barcelona’s 2-1 win over Rayo Vallecano last night was marred by the serious injury sustained by young midfield prodigy Marc Bernal.

The 17-year-old wonderkid, pending confirmation, appears to have ruptured his ACL and could be out for a prolonged period, which is a matter of concern for Barcelona.

With Frenkie de Jong out and still without a return date, Gavi still recovering from his ACL injury, and now Bernal being sidelined, the Catalans are left with only Marc Casado as an option in central midfield along with Pedri.

The idea of promoting Pau Prim from Barcelona Atletic could be considered, but with a couple of days still left in the transfer market, a late signing to reinforce the midfield is not ruled out.

N’Golo Kante could be an option

In that scenario, Mundo Deportivo reports that Barcelona might consider making a move for N’Golo Kante, but only if the club’s financial situation allows them to sign a player.

It is no secret that Barcelona have held a long-standing interest in Kante, who currently plies his trade in Saudi Arabia with Al-Ittihad.

Reports dating only a couple of weeks back suggested that Barcelona had been in contact with Kante as sporting director Deco admires the player.

A deal for the ex-Chelsea superstar, however, could be very complicated to pull off considering that there is very little time left in the transfer window.

Furthermore, Barcelona’s financial situation is far from ideal as well, considering that the club had to struggle to register Dani Olmo.

As such, signing and registering Kante before the transfer window closes on Friday appears highly improbable.

But if the conditions allow for it, the former Chelsea midfielder is a name that the Catalans would consider bringing in.
