The name of Girona midfielder Aleix Garcia has been heavily linked with Barcelona since the January transfer window. The Spaniard, for his part, even admitted that he would love to make the switch to Barça if an opportunity presented itself.
While nothing came of it last month, Fernando Polo of Mundo Deportivo is reporting that Barcelona will go after Garcia’s signing in the summer as a serious option.
The 26-year-old midfielder is valued very highly by the Barça technical staff, who already made a strong push for his signing in January, but FFP issues meant it never came to fruition.
Contacts already made
Not only Xavi and his staff, but sporting director Deco and his scouting and technical staff also want to sign Garcia, giving more strength to his signing in the summer.
In fact, the report states that Barcelona have already made contact with Girona as well as the player and his entourage to convey the club’s interest in signing him.
The reigning La Liga champions like Garcia a lot for his ability to play as both an interior and a pivot, along with his vision, range of distribution, and physicality. On top of that, his set-piece prowess is also admirerd by the Blaugrana.
Garcia has a contract with Girona that runs until 2026 but has a release clause. While some reports suggest that the clause amount is €20 million, but Barcelona believe that it is a much lower amount, around €14-15 million.
Barça to offer players in exchange
In fact, the idea from Barcelona is to further lower Garcia’s price by offering a player in exchange as part of the operation.
To that end, Fernando Polo reports that one of three players could possibly enter as makeweights in the operation.
Oriol Romeu is out of favour at Barça and could be sold in the summer. The midfielder continues to have admirers at Girona after he enjoyed a solid season there in 2022/23.
Meanwhile, both Eric Garcia and Pablo Torre are also possible options, with the duo currently on loan at Girona and making an impression on manager Michel.
