With four months left in the ongoing season, plans for the summer transfer window are already underway at FC Barcelona.

The Catalans’ sporting director, Deco, has some major decisions to make not only with regard to the make-up of the squad but also the appointment of the next manager, with Xavi Hernandez having announced to step down.

As far as the transfer plans are concerned, the idea appears to be to sign a new defensive midfielder and a left-winger, apart from Joao Cancelo and Joao Felix.

At least five players to leave

Meanwhile, Ferran Correas of SPORT is reporting that at least five players are expected to leave Barcelona in the summer transfer window.

For starters, captain Sergi Roberto and Marcos Alonso are set to run down their contracts at the end of the season and the pair is expected to leave as free agents.

Alonso has barely featured this season and does not feature in the plans for the future, whereas the Catalans have also decided not to renew first-captain Roberto’s contract.

Apart from these two players, Oriol Romeu is another Barça star expected to move on after his second stint at the club has not gone according to plans.

Beyond that, Barcelona are likely to make at least two important sales, one of which could be Raphinha, who is a target for Tottenham, with the Premier League club offering €70 million for him.

On top of that, a central defender could also be sold to generate revenue, with the Blaugrana having plenty of options in the department.

La Masia produces

Given that there will not be enough funds to strengthen every position, Barcelona will turn to La Masia to reinforce the squad.

Should Raphinha leave, Barça already have a readymade replacement in Lamine Yamal, while Pau Cubarsi has shown that he is ready to step up and become a reliable option in the centre-back department.

Hector Fort would be replacing Sergi Roberto as cover at right-back while also being capable of filling in on the left side.
