Barcelona have decided to change their approach regarding Mikayil Faye following Ronald Araujo’s injury, according to SPORT

Initially, Faye’s representatives were considering an exit for the player this summer. However, Barcelona have put those plans on hold. They want Hansi Flick to evaluate Faye’s performances until January, after which a decision about his future will be made.

Faye, 20, has been making significant progress and after his transfer to Porto fell through, he began integrating more with the Barça first team. His situation now looks more promising than it did a month ago.

Faye has shown that he is prepared and capable of meeting Flick’s requirements. The German manager prefers his centre-backs to be quick, enabling a high-pressing game with a forward-pushed back line. Faye fits these tactical needs and possesses considerable physical strength.

Will Faye play under Flick?

Faye’s potential role in Flick’s plans could mean that any transfer plans for him will be delayed at least until January. Besides his performance, Araujo’s injury, which will keep him out for several months, is another crucial factor in Faye’s continued presence.

Barcelona need reliable centre-backs to start the season, especially since Eric Garcia and Pau Cubarsi will have little rest after the 2024 Paris Olympics.

Furthermore, With Inigo Martínez still awaiting registration, Faye’s importance to the team has grown.

Given these circumstances, a transfer for Faye seems unlikely at this stage, as Barcelona need a fully competitive squad for the start of the league.

Flick in pressure, but it is manageable

The club’s financial challenges put additional pressure on Flick and if these issues are not resolved before the season starts, it could complicate his position further. Mika Faye remains a potential asset to be cashed in on, but for now, he is expected to stay.

If Barcelona can stabilise and perform well during their tour of the United States, all options remain on the table. However, the current plan likely sees Faye staying until January, with his future reassessed then.

If Faye gets significant playing time in the first four months of the season, he might remain with the team. But if he is primarily a substitute, a transfer in January could be beneficial for both Faye and Barcelona.
