Ronald Araujo’s Copa America campaign came to a disappointing end when he picked up an injury during Uruguay’s semifinal clash against Brazil. He was later ruled out for the rest of the tournament.

Earlier in the month, Barcelona confirmed Araujo has decided to undergo surgery, leading to reports of the defender potentially being sidelined until the end of this year.

Araujo to undergo surgery in Finland

A recent report from Mundo Deportivo has offered a fresh update on Ronald Araujo’s recovery, who is set to travel to Turkey, Finland, for his surgery.

Initial assessments suggested conservative treatment might be an option, but after the inflammation subsided, Barcelona’s medical team recommended surgery to minimize the risk of a relapse.

Dr Lasse Lempainen, a renowned specialist in muscular problems, will perform the operation on the Barcelona defender.

Araujo is no stranger to Dr Lempainen’s expertise – several Barcelona players, including Alejandro Balde, Ousmane Dembele, Ansu Fati, and Sergi Roberto, have undergone successful surgeries under his care.

The surgery means Araujo will miss a significant chunk of the upcoming season, likely returning sometime in December.

Barcelona are expected to provide further updates on his recovery progress in due course, but for the time being, the club will have to make do with limited resources in the defensive unit.

Shortly after Araujo’s injury, it was reported that Barça will retain the services of both Eric Garcia and Inigo Martinez, in order to supplement for the loss of the Uruguayan international.

As the summer progresses, it will be interesting to see how Barcelona combat the absence of Ronald Araujo, heading into the new season.
