As the summer transfer window of 2024 edges closer, Barcelona are prepared to sanction a few exits, and one of the players expected to leave is Marcos Alonso.

The veteran left-back is in the final few months of his contract at Barcelona and is widely expected to move on once it expires as there is no renewal offer forthcoming.

In fact, it had been suggested that Alonso could be on his way to Barça’s arch-rivals Atletico Madrid, having held talks with them over a free transfer switch.

Alonso not committing to Atletico Madrid yet

Now Mundo Deportivo reports that while Alonso has indeed held talks with Atletico Madrid about a possible move, he is not ready to commit as of yet.

The veteran Spanish ace wants to take his time and assess all his options before making a final decision on his next move.

As per the report, Alonso is yet to receive any official communication from Barcelona regarding his future but knows that there will be no renewal for him and is already thinking about his next move.

However, having endured a difficult season, in terms of fitness and lack of minutes, the former Chelsea man is not ready to jump into anything right away and wants to carefully assess all his options before making the final decision.

Atletico Madrid, who have tried to sign Alonso previously as well, are aware of his stance and are waiting for him to take a final call.

For now, the only thing that appears to be certain is that Alonso will be leaving Barcelona as a free agent.
