Clement Lenglet is among the players likely to leave Barcelona in the days to come.

The Frenchman, despite participating in the club’s pre-season campaign, is not a part of Hansi Flick’s project and will be allowed to leave this summer.

In recent days, Lenglet has been closely linked with two La Liga clubs, in particular. The two clubs in question are Atletico Madrid and Villarreal.

Lenglet agrees terms with Atleti

A recent report from COPE has offered a fresh update on Lenglet’s future, suggesting that the defender has agreed a deal in principle with Atletico Madrid.

This is a significant development for Barcelona, as Lenglet’s exit could be crucial in helping the club register the likes of Inigo Martinez and new signing Dani Olmo.

It must be noted that Lenglet is among the highest-paid players at Barcelona. Keeping him at the club, in fact, was almost non-sustainable for the club.

That is why the Frenchman’s potential exit could serve as a relief for the Blaugrana as they look to reduce their inflated wage bill.

Although Villarreal were also in the mix to sign Lenglet, the player has apparently informed the Yellow Submarines that he is waiting for a move to Atletico Madrid.

Atleti, though, have some loose ends they must take care of before they can sign the Frenchman this summer.

The Spanish giants must sanction the sale of certain players in order to create enough economic provision. Player sales could also be key in helping Atleti maintain the Financial Fair Play margins.
