Jules Kounde was highly regarded by former Barcelona manager Xavi Hernandez, who made considerable efforts to secure the player’s signature.

Despite Xavi’s departure, Kounde’s value has endured under the stewardship of the new manager, Hansi Flick.

While the Catalans continue to face financial challenges and do not rule out the departures of certain star players, it appears that Kounde is safe from the chopping block for now.

Jules Kounde’s transfer to Al-Ittihad unlikely

Previous reports indicated that Saudi Arabian club Al-Ittihad showed interest in acquiring Kounde’s services during the transfer window, particularly due to their sporting director, Ramon Planes, previously holding a similar role at Barça.

However, according to AS, the Saudi Arabian club hasn’t made any contact with either Barcelona or the player.

Their true target was Ter Stegen, despite being fully aware that the German goalkeeper had no intentions of leaving Barcelona.

Flick values Kounde immensely

Furthermore, the report states that Kounde is set to be a defensive mainstay under Flick, capable of excelling as both a centre-back and a full-back.

With Pau Cubarsi’s potential participation in the Olympics and Cancelo’s possible loan extension, Kounde’s versatility and defensive awareness make him a valuable asset for the team’s tactics.

Whether playing centrally or out wide, the Frenchman’s adaptability and skill set make him an indispensable player for the German coach.

Despite looking underwhelming at times in the first half of the campaign, it is worth noting that Kounde was incredibly consistent during Barcelona’s final few months of the season, with notable displays in the Champions League against PSG.

As such, he is expected to have a prominent role under Flick and maintain a key role in the dressing room.
