Eric Garcia is currently away with the Spain national team for the Paris Olympics even as uncertainty looms over his future at FC Barcelona.

Back after a successful loan stint at Girona, Garcia is still waiting to learn if he is in new Barça manager Hansi Flick’s plans or whether he will have to find a new club this summer.

Ronald Araujo’s injury could open a window for the former Manchester City man to continue but nothing is guaranteed at this point and an exit could still materialise.

Girona remain keen

If Garcia has to leave Barcelona, Girona are ready to act and sign him up, with the Catalan club making him their top target for the centre-back position, reports Mundo Deportivo.

Girona have not forgotten Eric Garcia, with manager Michel confirming that they would be willing to sign him again in a recent interview.

“With Eric, we will see what happens. What is clear is that we need players in his position,” he said.

In fact, the report from MD states that Garcia and Michel are still in contact and exchange messages.

The Barça homegrown player knows that, if he is not a fundamental part of Hansi Flick’s schemes, he has a home at Montilivi and that he is Girona director Quique Cárcel’s first choice to reinforce the right centre-back position.

If he moved, the Spaniard would continue to play in the Champions League and would have the opportunity to build on his confidence and the great performances that made him the top-scoring defender last season.

Araujo’s injury, coupled with Garcia’s involvement in the Olympics means that any decision that Barcelona make will come at a later date, which could become a concern for Girona.

As such, they have also lined up possible alternatives for the Barcelona defender, but as things stand, he remains their top choice.
