According to journalist Daniele Mari, Inter Milan have shown interest in acquiring the services of Barcelona defender Mikayil Faye.

It must be noted that despite his impressive skills, Faye has had a less-than-ideal pre-season, failing to secure a starting position in any of Barcelona’s games, although he was utilised as a substitute on a few occasions.

Barcelona’s manager, Hansi Flick, had initially considered Faye as a potential option for the left-back position and had planned to assess his performance in this role during pre-season.

Faye’s future remains uncertain at Barcelona

However, the club’s current surplus of central defenders, despite Ronald Araujo’s absence due to injury for the first half of the season, has made Faye’s position uncertain.

With several options to choose from, including Inigo Martinez, Pau Cubarsi, Eric Garcia, Andreas Christensen and Jules Kounde, Faye’s opportunities for playing time appear limited.

Given these circumstances, Faye’s departure from Barcelona is not entirely ruled out, and the player has attracted significant interest from various clubs.

In addition to Inter Milan, AS Monaco have also expressed interest in signing Faye, with the club using their Joan Gamper Trophy match as an opportunity to engage in transfer discussions.

Rennes have already made an offer for the Senegalese international and now Inter Milan have also thrown their hat in the ring.

Barcelona want future control

Barcelona, however, are keen to maintain some level of control over Faye’s future, recognizing the immense potential he possesses.

As such, the club is insisting on the inclusion of either a buyback clause or a future sell-on clause in any permanent transfer agreement, should Faye leave the club before the transfer window closes.

This move would enable Barcelona to potentially re-sign Faye in the future or benefit financially from any future transfer dealings involving the player.

As the transfer window draws to a close, it remains to be seen whether Inter Milan or another club will meet Barcelona’s conditions and secure Faye’s services.
