Barcelona have a long-standing interest in signing RB Leipzig’s Dani Olmo, who was once at the club’s youth academy before leaving for Dinamo Zagreb in search of game-time and more say on his future.

The Spaniard is likely heading towards a summer exit this year, with his €60 million release clause coming into effect during the 2024 June window.

And it seems Barcelona are still interested in signing him, with Gerard Romero reporting that Dani Olmo’s father and agent met with Barcelona sporting director Deco today at the club offices.

Barcelona keen on signing him

Olmo has been linked with a move to Barcelona for several years now, with rumours stretching back to the 2021 season when Lionel Messi and Antoine Griezmann left the club during the same transfer window.

They were even interested in signing him last season, but had to pull away due to financial restrictions.

Olmo’s direct influence at Leipzig has decreased this season, with the Spaniard only mustering up five goals and four assists across 18 Bundesliga games.

However, he will be key during the last few games of the season as they try to retain fourth place and qualify for next season’s Champions League.

It will eventually come down to a fight against Borussia Dortmund, who have seemingly qualified for the semi-finals this season.

Competition from the Premier League

Barcelona are not the only team interested in signing Olmo this summer, with reports claiming that Manchester City are ready to trigger his release clause also.

Chelsea and Manchester United are also keeping tabs on his situation, but might have to bow out of the race since neither team is expected to finish in a Champions League spot.

With the European Championship close by, and Olmo expected to part-take in the competition as a starter, more teams could come in with concrete interest.
