Fermin Lopez has enjoyed an excellent last 12 months or so, breaking into the Barcelona first-team setup and then forcing his way into the Spanish national team.

The 21-year-old midfield gem finished the 2023/24 season with 11 goals for the Blaugrana and then went on to win the UEFA Euro 2024 with Spain before topping it off with a gold medal at the Olympics with La Roja.

Fermin’s successful breakthrough season has seen him attract interest from several clubs and as such, Barcelona are already working on rewarding him with an improved contract.

Deco meets with Fermin’s agent

Now, Jijantes FC reports that Barcelona director Deco met with the agent of Fermin Lopez to continue talks over a new contract for the young midfield pearl.

There is a good feeling between the two parties as far as the renewal negotiations are concerned and even though it will not be completed immediately, everything is on the right track.

Barça want to protect Fermin and secure his long-term future at the club, especially with several teams showing an interest in his services.

As reported earlier this month, the Catalans intend to offer Fermin an improved salary as well as raise his release clause from €400 million to €1 billion, putting him in the same group as other top talents like Pedri, Gavi, & co.

With talks now underway and there being good vibes between the club and the player’s agent, a renewal agreement might not be far away.
