Barcelona director Deco is staring at a busy few months heading into the summer window as he works to find a replacement for Xavi Hernandez as well as lay out a roadmap for the club’s transfer activities.
The busy schedule has seen the former Portugal midfielder take meetings with agents of several players in recent weeks, most notably Rafaela Pimenta, the representative of Manchester City superstar Erling Haaland.
Deco meets Man United director in Barcelona
Now, Jijantes FC is reporting that Deco had a meeting with Manchester United sporting director John Murtough and the club’s director of negotiations, Matt Hargreaves, in Barcelona earlier today.
Along with the officials from the two clubs, football agents Frank Trimboli and Fede Massai, of the CAA Base agency, were also present at the meeting.
The timing of the meeting is certainly interesting considering that only last week we reported Manchester United loanee Mason Greenwood is a serious summer target for Barcelona.
Greenwood is currently on loan at Getafe and has been making a decent impression in his maiden campaign in La Liga. The 22-year-old is unlikely to have a future at Old Trafford next season and his contract expires in 2025, making him a viable target for Barça.
On the other hand, the Red Devils have held a long-standing interest in Barcelona midfielder and fourth captain Frenkie de Jong.
The faltering Premier League giants came close to landing him back in 2022, only for the player to dig his heels in and refuse to leave.
At this point, there are no details provided about the meeting and everything is pure conjecture. However, the timing of the meeting, days after it was reported that Barcelona had asked about Greenwood’s situation, does generate some intrigue.
