Florian Wirtz is one of the most coveted young footballers in European football after enjoying great success with Bayer Leverkusen in the season gone by.

Indeed, the German international was one of the main driving forces as Die Werkself went on to win the Bundesliga title and the DFB Pokal while making it to the finals of the UEFA Europa League as well.

Barcelona are one of Wirtz’s greatest admirers and have made him a ‘dream target’ for the summer of 2025 while arch-rivals Real Madrid are also interested. Other clubs like Bayern Munich and Manchester City are also looking at him.

Wirtz addresses future

Wirtz’s future has been a topic of discussion for some time now, but it has been settled that the German attacking midfielder will be staying put at Bayer Leverkusen for one more season.

However, reports widely suggest that it will be his final year with the German giants and that he will be on the move come the summer of 2025.

When asked if it is indeed going to be his last season with Leverkusen, Wirtz refused to commit to anything as he said (h/t Mundo Deportivo):

“I don’t have a timetable, so I don’t have any ideas about it yet.”

Continuing further, Wirtz added: “I’m very happy to be able to play football again after the summer break and to be back here. I’m just trying to get back to achieving my goals with the team.

“At some point, it will become clear what’s going on. But … I don’t have a timetable.”

€130 million at least for Wirtz

The report from Mundo Deportivo further highlights that Bayer Leverkusen value Wirtz at a mammoth €130 million.

As such, any club interested in signing him, like Barcelona, would have to meet that price tag come 2025. It must be noted that the figure could further rise if the footballer enjoys another successful season with the Bundesliga champions.

Given their current financial predicament, whether Barcelona would be in a position to sign Wirtz next year will be the big question.
