The rivalry between Barcelona and Real Madrid is evergreen and recent controversies have only broadened the gap between the two heavyweights.

Earlier this week, the Catalans demolished Los Blancos at Santiago Bernabeu with a 4-0 hammering, making it clear that they are the superior side at the moment and thus added to a special week where they already beat Bayern Munich.

News of Vinicius Jr. being snubbed for the Ballon d’Or has only improved the celebratory mood in Catalonia as it is natural that the club celebrate Real Madrid not winning the award.

The beans spilled well in advance

As revealed in a recent update by SPORT, the Barcelona dressing room celebrated Rodri winning the Ballon d’Or, especially given that several players share a special bond with him through the national team.

However, the Blaugrana dressing room knew of the result well before it came out in the media through internal sources, but they took it with a pinch of salt.

Players in Catalonia got a hint that Rodri may win as early as yesterday morning and it was a topic of discussion in the dressing room and in their Whatsapp groups.

Members of the Barcelona delegation who travelled to Paris for the event including Dani Olmo, Lamine Yamal and Pau Cubarsi then confirmed that according to their on-site information, the rumours were true.

The breaking headline was also confirmed in the Barcelona dressing room through media sources, bringing about dual celebrations both for Vinicius Jr.’s defeat and Rodri’s coronation.

Notably, the Ballon d’Or winner made it a point in his speech to thank all his teammates and had special words for Lamine Yamal who won the Kopa Trophy on the night.
