Barcelona will lock horns with Bundesliga giants Bayern Munich in the UEFA Champions League tonight at Estadi Olimpic Lluis Companys in Montjuic.

It promises to be a clash of two heavyweights in good form with top players on both sides.

Barcelona, in particular, go into the game with their attacking unit of Robert Lewandowski, Raphinha, and Lamine Yamal in unstoppable mood.

At the same time, they also have a secret weapon that they can unleash on Vincent Kompany’s men tonight in Montjuic.

Dani Olmo’s impressive record vs Bayern Munich

Indeed, Dani Olmo has proven to be a consistent thorn in Bayern Munich’s side, with his impressive track record against the German giants making him a player to watch in tonight’s clash.

The 26-year-old attacking midfielder, who spent three and a half seasons with RB Leipzig in the Bundesliga, before joining Barcelona this past summer, has demonstrated a particular knack for scoring against the Bavarian giants.

Olmo’s most notable performance against Bayern came in last season’s German Super Cup, where he netted a remarkable hat-trick in RB Leipzig’s commanding 3-0 victory, albeit against backup goalkeeper Sven Ulreich.

The Spanish international’s previous encounter with Bayern in the German Super Cup, although ending in a 5-3 defeat, saw him successfully beat Neuer once, bringing his total tally against Bayern to four goals in Super Cup matches alone.

Olmo’s success against Bayern players extends beyond club competitions. In last summer’s UEFA Euro 2024 quarter-final between Spain and Germany, he delivered another standout performance against Manuel Neuer.

The Barcelona summer signing not only scored the opening goal but also provided the assist for Mikel Merino’s winning goal in extra time, earning him the Man of the Match award in Spain’s 2-1 victory.

However, Olmo did not register any goal against Bayern in Bundesliga and managed just one assist from eight games.

Interestingly, though, Bayern Munich have long admired Olmo’s talents, having tracked him since his days at Dinamo Zagreb.

In fact, their interest persisted through the summer transfer window, when they attempted to secure his signature while he was in negotiations with Barcelona.

Olmo recovered from his injury and made a comeback to the squad this past weekend against Sevilla, but did not receive any minutes.

While he is unlikely to start tonight against Bayern, the timing of his return to fitness coincides perfectly with this fixture, and given his history of rising to the occasion against Bayern, he could be the ace up the Blaugrana’s sleeves.
