Earlier this week, FC Barcelona sporting director Deco held a meeting with Felix Tainta, the agent of Athletic Club and Spain winger, Nico Williams.

During the meeting, which is said to have taken place at a hotel in Zaragoza, Barça supposedly made a long-term contract offer for the 22-year-old, who is their priority target for the left flank.

Despite the many uncertainties surrounding their financial and Fair Play situation, the Blaugrana are absolutely certain about signing Nico and are keen on wrapping up the deal as soon as possible.

Hoping for a swift answer

As such, Mundo Deportivo’s Roger Torello reports that Barcelona are now waiting for Nico Williams to not only give an affirmative answer but, as far as possible, to do so fairly quickly, as the club needs to finish planning the squad.

As mentioned earlier, the Spanish international is seen as the absolute priority for this summer.

But as much as Barcelona want Nico, they are also not in a position to offer him a very lucrative contract – something that Deco is believed to have informed his agent.

The Athletic winger’s agent has been told that in the first two seasons, the winger will be paid a lower salary and, from the third year – which will also coincide with the Spotify new Camp Nou returning to full capacity accommodation, his salary will increase considerably.

This is a formula Barça have already used to sign players like Robert Lewandowski and Ilkay Gundogan and are hoping for a repeat with Nico.

Barcelona have already made moves to raise the money to pay his €58 million termination clause.

And, it is now up to Williams and his family to decide whether to accept Barça’s offer or continue with the Basque club for another year or to opt for higher offers from the Premier League.
