According to reports from the reliable Jose Alvarez, the Blaugranas are considering a return on loan for the former La Masia star Xavi Simons. In fact, the club board are already working on a formula to make the transfer happen.
The Dutch phenom was highly rated in the club’s academy and was seen as one who was destined to make it big in the long term.
However, Barcelona did not go all out on his renewal to meet his demands, nor did they guarantee him playing time in the first-team as the player demanded. The club went on to lose the player to PSG in 2019.
Currently, 21 years of age, Simons is shining bring at RB Leipzig under Marco Rose and has started 30 games for the club in the Bundesliga.
In that duration, he has scored a stunning seven goals and provided 11 assists for the German side.
As a potent force down the left wing, Simons perfectly fills the void Xavi sees in his squad and is thus a tempting option for the club to consider in June.
Simons’ stance on a potential return to Barcelona
Despite parting ways with his childhood club on mixed terms, Simons’ love for Barcelona is unchanged, so much so that the Spanish journalist relays that the youngster is ‘crazy’ about moving back home.
The only hurdle in the negotiations, however, is that Simons is still contractually bound to PSG after the French giants exercised their option to buy him back from PSV Eindhoven last summer for €6 million.
His loan in Germany ends this summer, but he will return to Nasser Al-Khelaifi’s side soon after.
Negotiating with the French giants will be difficult, albeit not impossible considering the number of young wingers they have in their arsenal.
