Barcelona are considering two potential signings to reinforce their squad in January: Jerdy Schouten from PSV Eindhoven and Mason Greenwood from Marseille, according to a report from Fichajes

It must be noted that although these two players have distinct playing styles, both could help bolster key areas of Hansi Flick’s team.

Schouten, a versatile defensive midfielder, has caught the attention of Barça due to his ability to play in multiple positions. Primarily a pivot, he can also step in as a centre-back, a trait highly valued by the coaching staff.

With Marc Bernal sidelined for the entire season due to injury, Barcelona are exploring ways to strengthen their squad. Schouten’s contract with PSV runs until 2028, which could make the deal costly.

However, Barcelona are searching for affordable options that would allow them to add depth to their squad without breaking the bank.

What about Greenwood?

On the attacking side, Mason Greenwood has also emerged as a potential target. Greenwood, 22, has revived his career in France, showing excellent form by scoring five goals in four league matches.

Barcelona have had prior contact with Greenwood’s agents, particularly during his time in Spain. Despite his promising form, the path to signing Greenwood is complicated.

Manchester United included several clauses in his previous transfers, which could hinder a future deal. Additionally, Real Madrid have expressed interest in Greenwood, adding competition to the mix.

Furthermore, Barcelona’s financial situation also complicates matters. With limited funds, the club faces challenges in affording high transfer fees, but they remain determined to find solutions in the January transfer window, which promises to be a busy period for player movements.

The club will need to be creative to reinforce their squad while managing their financial constraints effectively.
