A recent report from Mundo Deportivo has offered a comprehensive update on Barcelona’s search for a new midfielder.

As reported earlier, Barça are ready to spend the big bucks for a defensive midfielder this summer. The club, though, have not lost sight of potential cost-effective options in the market, even if they give only a temporary solution.

To that end, Barcelona appear to have set their sights on two midfielders in England, who could become free agents in the coming summer.

The players in question are Jorginho and Wilfred Ndidi. Both players will have their contracts expire at the end of the season, meaning Barcelona can get them for free.

Jorginho, for one, has been on Barcelona’s radar for quite some time now. Currently plying his trade for Arsenal, the Italian has not been a first-team regular for Mikel Arteta.

At 32, Jorginho is not one of the priorities for Barcelona either. But the club recognise the experience and leadership the Italian could bring to the table.

Moreover, his status as a free agent makes him an appealing target for Barcelona, if they look for a temporary solution in the defensive midfield slot.

What about Ndidi?

Ndidi is a lot younger and a more dynamic alternative to Jorginho. He has been a consistent performer for Leicester City over the years and this season has been no exception.

At 27, Ndidi is currently at the peak of his powers and would bring the much-needed physicality and defensive solidity in the middle of the park.

The report adds that the Nigerian international is also keen on the idea of playing for Barcelona. However, the Catalans are likely to face stiff competition in the pursuit of the Leicester City midfielder.

Juventus are among the clubs keen on Ndidi’s services this coming summer, with the Italian giants even watching him in the FA Cup quarterfinal against Chelsea.

Barcelona, therefore, must take a decision quickly if they are to sign Ndidi next season.
