Barcelona have been in transition for a long time now. Departures of legends like Jordi Alba, Sergio Busquets and Lionel Messi have left a lasting void at the club that just cannot be filled easily.
Come June, there will once again be drastic changes in the Catalan capital. Xavi has announced that he will leave his post of manager in the summer, and there is no clarity over who will lead the team next season.
The manager’s decision, needless to say, also affects the future of several Blaugrana stars and the management’s approach to the transfer window.
The two loanees
According to reports from SPORT, Barcelona hope to make the loan moves of Joao Cancelo and Joao Felix permanent in the summer.
Both players have left different impressions on the management, but it is clear that the administration see them both to be influential.
Cancelo, in particular, has been a standout performer for the club in defence and has revolutionised the team’s right wing.
The 29-year-old’s presence on the flank may slightly compromise the defensive structure, but the attacking incisiveness he provides more than makes up for the same.
Felix, meanwhile, has lacked consistency but impressed on occasion with his magical touch. Barcelona hope to make his move permanent, although it will depend on Atletico Madrid’s asking price.
Two new signing
SPORT further relays that Barcelona are eyeing two more signings in addition to Felix and Cancelo for the summer and are on the lookout in the transfer market for the same.
The first position of interest to be reinforced is the defensive midfield position. With Oriol Romeu not doing well, the hole left after Sergio Busquets’ exit remains unfilled and Barça wish to reinforce the position with a strong midfielder.
Secondly, Joan Laporta and Co. are looking for a quality winger to play down the left flank and complement the attack. Needless to say, such a recruitment would only add to Lamine Yamal’s havoc on the right and help the club attack from both sides.
