As Barcelona gear up for the season opener against Valencia tomorrow, the club are still missing a few key players due to injuries.

Frenkie de Jong, Pedri, Ansu Fati and Gavi are some of the notable absentees. While Gavi is out with a long-term injury, there is no return date set for de Jong and Fati either.

But in a rare positive, Barcelona may soon expect Pedri to be back in action.

Pedri in the final recovery stage

As reported by Mundo Deportivo, Pedri is closing in on his return to the pitch following a string of positive developments this week.

On Thursday, Pedri was able to complete the entire training session with the rest of his teammates.

This is a massive boost for Barcelona, as it implies the Spaniard is currently in the final stage of his recovery and could soon return to action.

Pedri had picked up a knee injury during Spain’s Euro 2024 campaign and was subsequently ruled out for a period of more than a month.

But the young midfielder has since done well to recover quickly. On Wednesday, he worked out quite normally, and the following day, he was able to finish the training session with his teammates.

A doubt for the Valencia game

Saturday’s league opener against Valencia, though, could still come too soon for Pedri, who requires some more days to be labelled fit to play. The midfielder, though, is expected to be ready in time to face Athletic Club next week.

Pedri is not the only big-name Barcelona star who will miss out on the opening game against Valencia.

The Catalans will also miss new signing Dani Olmo, who is still yet to be registered with the first-team. In any case, the Spaniard has had very little training and may only appear in the next game against Athletic Club, provided Barcelona manage to secure his registration.
