Barcelona midfielder Gavi is edging closer to making his return, with reports suggesting that the club’s staff are ready to give the green light.

Journalist Fabrizio Romano has revealed that the Barcelona board is keen to prioritise Gavi’s contract negotiations, viewing him as a vital component of their long-term plans.

Alongside Pedri, Gavi’s new deal is one of the club’s top priorities, ensuring both players remain central to the project moving forward. Before that, though, the club is keen on ensuring that his return is swift.

Gavi’s absence, which has stretched since November 2023, has been a significant issue for Barcelona’s technical staff, medical team, and fitness coaches.

The young midfielder has not been able to contribute on the pitch for nearly a year, and his recovery has become a major talking point in recent weeks.

A lot has been said about his return

It is said that the plan is for Gavi to be medically cleared before October 20, just in time for Barcelona’s clash against Sevilla at Montjuic. If everything goes according to plan, the club could give him a brief run-out, with the possibility of playing around 10 to 15 minutes.

However, the staff must tread carefully, as the nature of Gavi’s injury requires more than just a positive outlook and enthusiasm from the player himself. His condition needs to be monitored closely to avoid any setbacks.

The timing of his return is crucial, as Barcelona face a packed schedule following the Sevilla match. Tough fixtures against Bayern Munich and Real Madrid are lined up in the same week, making it even more important that Gavi’s comeback is handled with caution.

Although Barcelona are being cautious, Romano’s report indicates that Gavi’s return is just around the corner.

While no exact date has been set, it is expected that he might make a brief appearance towards the end of the match against Sevilla, depending on how the game unfolds.
