Barcelona have quietly secured the signing of promising young striker Ibrahim Diarra, a 17-year-old talent, despite the absence of any official announcement.

This news surfaced from a recent report by The Athletic, highlighting how the club has managed to negotiate this significant addition behind the scenes.

The outlet mentions that this week, a detailed management report summarising the club’s financial activities for the 2023-2024 season was shared with Barcelona socios, or club members.

This report, spanning 89 pages, sheds light on the club’s complex history and ongoing challenges under the leadership of current president Joan Laporta.

Interestingly, Barcelona have faced numerous unresolved issues that continue to influence their present operations and future ambitions, making the situation at the club anything but straightforward.

Agreement in January

Among the various matters discussed in the report is the signing of Ibrahim Diarra, who impressed during the Under-17 World Cup last year, scoring five goals and providing four assists for Mali.

His former club, Africa Foot, confirmed that they reached an agreement with Barcelona back in January, yet the Blaugrana have yet to publicly acknowledge this signing.

Interestingly, the club’s financial records include a payment of €1.7 million for Diarra, which adds a layer of legitimacy to the signing.

Sources within Barcelona indicate that the young striker will likely begin his journey with Barcelona Atletic, the club’s second team competing in Spain’s third tier, once he turns 18 in December

At that point, he will also be eligible for a work permit, allowing him to officially join the ranks.

This behind-the-scenes signing reflects Barcelona’s strategy, although questionable, of nurturing young talent, aiming to build a solid foundation for the future.

While the club deals with various financial and operational complexities, the acquisition of a player signals a commitment to long-term success.
