The summer of 2024 will be packed as the UEFA Euro 2024 will take place in Germany soon after which the Olympic Games are scheduled to take place in Paris, France.

The back-to-back international tournaments pose a headache for Barcelona as they have several players who are regulars in the senior Spain national team but can also be a part of the Under-23 setup at the Olympics.

Pedri pulled double duty for Spain at the Euros and Olympics back in 2021 and it took a toll on him physically. Heading into this year’s summer, it has been reported that the midfielder could again be asked to participate in both competitions.

Beyond that, there could also be concern about Lamine Yamal being asked to pull double duty while Alejandro Balde, recovering from an injury, could be in contention for the Olympics.

Ferran Torres ready to participate in the Olympics

Now, as per reports relayed by SPORT, another Barcelona player, Ferran Torres is in contention to participate in both the Euros and the Olympic Games this summer and is willing to do so.

The Barça forward has responded positively to the call from the Spanish Football Federation (RFEF) who contacted him to find out if he was willing to take part in the Olympic Games despite being a full international.

The rules governing the Olympic Games state that only players born on or after 1 January 2001 can take part in the competition, but a maximum of three over-23-year-old players are allowed per squad. Ferran, born on 29 February 2000, would fall in the latter category at the time of the tournament.

As such, the RFEF contacted Torres to learn if he would be willing to participate in the games and received a positive response from the Barcelona forward.

Based on his positive response, Ferran is on the pre-list of internationals over the age of 23 who can fill one of the three places that can be called up. The Olympic Games will be held between 24 July and 10 August.

Torres is a full international with Spain and a regular in Luis de la Fuente’s squad. La Roja will play the Euros in Germany between 14 June and 14 July. Should they reach the final of this tournament, Torres would only have ten days before the start of the Olympic Games.
