In their search for a new pivot midfielder, Barcelona have identified several potential targets one of whom happens to be Aleix Garcia of Girona.

The 26-year-old has been on Barça’s radars for a while now, with the club even weighing up a move in January, only to decide against it due to finances.

Garcia has professed his love for Barcelona in the past and would be open to the move, while the club retain him on their shortlist of targets for the pivot midfield position.

Barcelona have frozen contacts with Aleix Garcia

Now, SPORT has come forward with an update on Barcelona’s pursuit of Aleix Garcia heading into the summer transfer window.

As per the report, the Blaugrana have not yet taken any final step and will not do so until they know how much money they will have available and their salary limit.

There has been a lot of talk about the possibilities of bringing in Garcia in the summer, especially with the player understood to be willing to make the jump.

But the report states that all the contacts initiated with the Spaniard have been frozen for some weeks now. This move does not work in Barça’s favour.

Garcia attracting interest

As mentioned earlier, freezing contacts with Garcia could become an issue for Barcelona as the Girona midfielder has other suitors tracking him.

Indeed, clubs from the Premier League and Bundesliga have taken an interest in the 26-year-old, which could make things hard for Barça.

What works in the Catalan giants’ favour though is that Garcia is prepared to wait for them to come calling.

Barcelona could make a final decision on whether to move for Garcia or not after the UEFA Champions League quarterfinals next month.

The possibility of offering players like Oriol Romeu, who interests Girona, as a makeweight to reduce the 26-year-old’s transfer fee is not off the table.
