Bayern Munich are dealing with a couple of delicate situations in regard to two of their star players Joshua Kimmich and Alphonso Davies.

While Davies has been closely linked with a move to Real Madrid, Kimmich has been a target for Barcelona, who are keen on taking advantage of a potential market opportunity.

Kimmich’s contract in Bavaria expires in 2025, leading many to believe the midfielder could leave the club this summer.

Barcelona drop interest in Kimmich

However, in a major development, it appears Barcelona have dropped their interest in Joshua Kimmich.

This is according to Diario SPORT, which suggests the Catalans will not make a move for Kimmich after failing to find an agreement with Bayern Munich.

Despite Kimmich’s contract situation, Bayern were adamant about a price tag of €50 million. Barcelona are not in a position to fork out such a hefty figure on Kimmich, even though signing a midfielder is one of the club’s top priorities.

Not to mention, Kimmich’s hefty salary demand was also proving to be a major obstacle for Barcelona, who have now completely given up on the chase.

The road ahead

Although Barça won’t make a move for Kimmich this summer, the club could be in contention to sign the German international in the off chance he leaves Bayern for free next summer.

However, that is an unlikely proposition as Kimmich is likely to leave the Allianz Arena this summer.

Manchester City and Paris Saint-Germain are already lining up a move for the German international, as part of their plans to shore up the ranks in midfield.

Barcelona, meanwhile, are likely to settle for a low-cost alternative such as Mikel Merino, in their bid to bring in a new box-to-box midfielder this summer.
