It has been over four months since Barcelona defensive stalwart Ronald Araujo suffered an injury while playing for Uruguay at the 2024 Copa America.
Having undergone surgery, the 25-year-old has been working hard on his rehabilitation for the past few months and is entering the final stretch of his recovery.
Now, SPORT has come forward with a report revealing that Barcelona have received a double positive update with regard to Araujo both in terms of his fitness and his future.
Return imminent
As mentioned earlier, the Barça second captain is in the final phase of his recovery and according to the report, if there are no setbacks and everything goes according to plan, he could be back in group training very soon.
Over the next few days, Araujo, along with the coaching staff and the medical department, will take a call on when he can make his comeback, although it is unlikely that he will be ready in time to face Celta Vigo right after the international break.
Instead, it is suggested that the 25-year-old could be back in the first week of December when Barcelona face RCD Mallorca and Real Betis in the space of three days.
Renewal likely
The second good news with Araujo is that Barcelona are now growing very optimistic about the key defender’s contract renewal.
The 25-year-old ace’s current deal runs out in 2026 and there was a brief period when talks over an extension appeared to have stalled and the possibility of a sale was also discussed. Furthermore, the injury to the defender led to the negotiations being paused.
However, things have taken a turn for the better as far as Araujo and his relationship with Barcelona are concerned. As such, now there is a firm belief at the club that the 25-year-old will sign a new contract.
The relationship between Araujo and manager Hansi Flick is excellent. This trust has made the player now think about staying at Barça and extending his contract in the coming months.
