Roberto De Zerbi’s name is said to be gaining strength within the Barcelona management and if a report from AS is to be believed, the Brighton head coach has been chosen by the Blaugrana as the best option to replace Xavi.

Javier Miguel writes for the aforementioned outlet that Joan Laporta and Deco are in sync with De Zerbi becoming Barcelona’s coach after Xavi.

In fact, the Italian’s representatives, Edmundo Kabchi and Edoardo Cnajr, recently met with the sporting director in Barcelona to talk about it for over three hours.

While the talking point of the meeting was about renewing Ronald Araújo’s contract, they also discussed the possibility of De Zerbi moving to Catalonia.

There’s a problem with De Zerbi’s contract

Overcoming the final hurdle in finalizing the Italian’s move hinges on the exit clause imposed by Brighton, which stands at approximately €10 million.

This monetary demand has posed a challenge for Barcelona, yet the agents have requested some patience as they work towards reaching an agreement with the English club.

Meanwhile, Barcelona have reportedly assured De Zerbi’s representatives that should they successfully implement this transfer, the Brighton coach will assume control of the first team starting from July 1.

De Zerbi has the Barcelona DNA

The sports management thinks De Zerbi is a perfect fit for Barcelona’s style, similar to what Pep Guardiola likes. The Manchester City manager even praised Brighton as one of the best teams in the world at moving the ball from the goalkeeper to the attacking third.

As for Barcelona, they have been keeping a close eye on the 44-year-old because of his focus on young players, like bringing in Ansu Fati. If De Zerbi can work out a deal to leave Brighton, there’s a chance he could join Barcelona. However, negotiations might be challenging since he has a contract with Brighton until 2026.

Over the last few days, the list Barcelona have made with regards to Xavi’s replacement have gotten short for one reason or the other. In any way, De Zerbi appears to be the one who has the management’s support and it remains to be seen how the Italian takes up this interest.
