Barcelona are reaping the rewards of putting their faith in La Masia with players like Lamine Yamal, Gavi, Pau Cubarsi, Alejandro Balde, Fermin Lopez, and Marc Casado, among others becoming key cogs in the first-team setup.
More players such as Sergi Dominguez, Toni Fernandez, Guille Fernandez, Alexis Olmedo and, Andres Cuenca are knocking on the doors of Hansi Flick.
Behind them, there are more youth prospects whom the Blaugrana have great hopes for, one of whom happens to be teenage left-back Jofre Torrents.
Jofre Torrents tipped for Barcelona first-team role in future
Indeed, journalist Jordi Cardero reports that Barcelona rate Jofre Torrents very highly and see him as one of the most talented and interesting players coming through at La Masia.
In fact, the 17-year-old left-back, who recently returned after close to a year out due to an ACL injury, is shining for the Juvenil A team and is already on the radars of several La Liga teams.
Torrents, born in 2007, has been a part of La Masia since 2017, having arrived from Reus as an Under-12 player. Initially deployed as a winger, he transitioned to left-back during his Cadete years and has made the position his own.
Since returning from injury, Torrents has been in exceptional form, showcasing his qualities in the UEFA Youth League with the Under-19 team, registering two assists in five matches.
So much so that, sources at La Masia say: “He will finish the season as a starter in the reserve team. The first team has a left-back for ten years.”
Intriguingly, Barcelona might need a left-back next season with Gerard Martin failing to convince as Alejandro Balde’s deputy in the current campaign.
As such, Torrents, if he continues on the current trajectory, could at least earn a spot in the pre-season camp under Hansi Flick.
