It is no secret that Barcelona have been trying to bring in a new central midfielder in the ongoing transfer window in light of Gavi’s season-ending injury.
The Financial Fair Play situation at the club has made it nearly impossible to make any recruitments, but the Blaugrana administration is hard at work to bring in investments from the sale of stakes in Barça Vision, after Libero Fund failed to make their payments.
With the hope that the finances get sorted, the Catalans have drawn up a list of possible targets to reinforce the midfield, one of whom happens to be Kalvin Phillips of Manchester City.
The English midfielder, whose market value stands at €28 million, is set to leave this month and Barcelona have been interested in acquiring him on loan.
No approach made
However, according to a fresh update from transfer expert Fabrizio Romano, Barcelona have not made any approach to Manchester City thus far to initiate talks for Kalvin Phillips.
As mentioned earlier, the 28-year-old midfielder will be leaving the Etihad this month after having hardly played over the course of the season.
Manager Pep Guardiola does not count on Phillips and the player is keen on a move so that he can play regularly and make it to the England squad for the UEFA Euro 2024.
A move to Barcelona is said to appeal to Phillips, but there has been no approach made from the La Liga champions thus far.
Loan deal too expensive
It is because, the current conditions for a loan deal are seen as very expensive by the Blaugrana, reports Romano.
As has been reported previously, Manchester City could be seeking a loan fee of around €8 million for their midfielder this month.
On top of that, it has also been suggested that the Premier League champions want the club that signs him to bear a large portion of his significant wages, something that is not feasible for Barcelona.
As such, a loan move looks unlikely at this point, with Phillips likely to end up at West Ham United, who are making a strong push for him.
