Karim Adeyemi had been on the agenda of FC Barcelona back in 2022, when he was making waves at RB Salzburg in Austria.

Nothing came of it though and the 22-year-old German forward ended up signing for Borussia Dortmund, where he is slowly carving out a reputation for himself.

Barcelona have not forgotten about Adeyemi

While Adeyemi might not have arrived at Barcelona a couple of years ago, according to a report from SPORT, the La Liga champions have not forgotten about the 22-year-old.

This comes on the back of the forward naming Barcelona captain and defender Ronald Araujo as the most difficult opponent he has faced in his career.

This is not the first time that Adeyemi has given a subtle nod towards Barça, after having liked a social media post last year that suggested his name as a possible replacement for Ansu Fati at the Catalan club.

And, it appears that the Blaugrana, too, have not forgotten about Adeyemi, whom they saw as an option for the future a couple of seasons ago.

The report states that Barça had tried to sign Adeyemi during the winter transfer window of 2022 but ended up taking their time, and Dortmund capitalised by agreeing a fee with Salzburg.

Meanwhile, Barcelona ended that window by bringing in Ferran Torres, Adama Traore, and Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang instead.

How has Adeyemi fared at Dortmund?

After enjoying a successful spell at RB Salzburg, Adeyemi has fared decently in Borussia Dortmund, although his goal return has not been as high as many expected.

In 50 appearances for the Black and Yellows, the 22-year-old has netted 11 goals and set up eight more.

Adeyemi has a contract with Dortmund that runs until the summer of 2027. And while there may be some lingering mutual admiration between him and Barcelona, any move in the upcoming summer looks far-fetched at this point.

Barça are looking for a left-winger, but have their eyes on Rafael Leao as one of their targets.
