Barcelona homegrown star achieves major record during AS Monaco defeat

Barcelona forward Lamine Yamal was undoubtedly the standout performer in their 1-2 defeat to Monaco last night. 

Despite playing with one man down after Eric Garcia’s red card and facing a difficult situation on the scoreboard, it was Yamal’s brilliance that once again provided hope for the team. 

Interestingly, Yamal’s performance wasn’t just noteworthy for his overall contribution, but also for the historic goal he scored during the match. At just 17 years and 68 days old, he became the second-youngest player to ever score in the Champions League. 

The only player younger than him to achieve this feat is his fellow Barcelona teammate, Ansu Fati, who found the back of the net in 2019 at 17 years and 40 days old.

A trademark Yamal goal

The young winger’s goal was a moment of sheer brilliance. After receiving the ball on the right wing, Yamal executed one of his signature moves. He cut inside diagonally, using clever dribbling and feints to create space for himself. 

With calmness beyond his years, he placed the ball perfectly near the goalkeeper’s post, showing great composure when others might have faltered under pressure.

This goal further demonstrated his growing football intelligence and his ability to step up when it matters most.

Yamal is unstoppable 

Yamal’s progression this season has been remarkable under the guidance of manager Hansi Flick. His contribution in just six games, including five in La Liga and one in the Champions League, speaks volumes about his rising importance to the team. 

In these matches, he has either scored or assisted in every single one, solidifying his role as a key player for Barcelona. His tally for the season so far includes 4 goals and 4 assists across all competitions. 

He started by providing an assist in the opening match against Valencia, followed by his first goal of the season against Athletic. He then provided three more assists against Rayo Vallecano and Real Valladolid before netting a brilliant double against Girona. 

His latest goal against Monaco was his first in the Champions League this season, further boosting his already impressive statistics.

With 8 goal involvements in just 6 games, Yamal is responsible for an impressive 44.4% of Barcelona’s total goals this season. His performances are propelling him into the same conversation as some of football’s biggest superstars, and at such a young age, his future looks incredibly bright.
