Julian Araujo was one of the Barcelona players who seriously impressed during his stint on loan last season. Playing for Las Palmas, the defender racked up 25 appearances and 15 starts for Garcia Pimienta’s side with one goal to his name.

With the right-back situation unclear in Catalonia, many saw the Mexican star as having an opportunity to capitalize on when back training with Barcelona.

Hansi Flick’s dynamics on the US preseason tour, however, made it clear that he does not count on Araujo and thus opens the door for a transfer.

Enroute England

As revealed in a recent report from SPORT, Barcelona are close to finalizing the 22-year-old’s departure, which is a crucial operation to balance the finances.

Bournemouth, as it stands, are the top contenders to sign the Mexican star and are in advanced talks with Barcelona. In fact, an agreement is expected as early as the coming hours.

The Premier League side are interested and financially capable of signing the Barcelona star, and the deal is expected to be worth €10 million as relayed by Fabrizio Romano, with talks said to be at an advanced stage.

The Blaugrana, however, are still negotiating for a sell-on clause. Needless to say, it is a positive operation for the Catalans who signed him for €4 million from LA Galaxy in 2023.

Replacements available

While Barcelona are indeed without a natural right-back option in the squad, Hansi Flick undoubtedly sees a spark that he can capitalize on heading into next season.

For starters, the Catalans are looking to reinstate Joao Cancelo as part of the squad and will push for the Portuguese star’s arrival late in the transfer window.

Even if the Manchester City star does not arrive, however, the coach has Jules Kounde and Hector Fort who can compete for the position.

Alex Valle’s strong performances at right-back in pre-season only increase the new coach’s options and virtually close the door for Araujo.
