According to a recent report from AS, it has come to light that Barcelona are facing growing frustration with Frenkie de Jong’s performance both on and off the pitch.

Despite being an important player, there is a feeling that he is lacking the aggression and intensity displayed by other players. As a result, many believe that de Jong has yet to live up to the expectations set by his high transfer fee.

Off the pitch, tensions have risen due to de Jong’s refusal to renew his contract, which runs until 2026. There are concerns that he might be planning to leave the club on a free transfer when his contract expires, which is why they are open to selling him next summer.

These issues have created a sense of dissatisfaction among certain members of the club, who feel that de Jong’s commitment is in question.

Situation has not improved

One of the major tasks for Hansi Flick is to find a way to bring the best out of de Jong. The manager has always stated that he sees the midfielder as a key figure in his plans and believes that de Jong has the qualities to fit perfectly into his style of play.

However, despite being a crucial player for his national team, Barcelona have struggled to see the same level of performance from de Jong.

His time at Barcelona has been marked by inconsistent performances, whether as a central or positional midfielder. His physical struggles, particularly with an ankle injury, have further hindered his ability to reach his potential.

After missing five months due to the injury, de Jong has found it difficult to regain his rhythm and confidence on the field.

Troubles do not stop

Since his return, he has played in nine matches but has only started two. He has yet to complete a full 90 minutes in any of these appearances.

In the upcoming match against Brest, it is likely that de Jong will start on the bench. This is because Marc Casado, who is suspended for the Las Palmas game, will retain his spot.

Flick remains hopeful that de Jong can regain his form and contribute significantly to the team, as he has successfully improved the performances of many players since taking charge.

He is determined to ensure that de Jong is not left behind and continues to work towards getting the best out of him, believing that the midfielder’s potential is still there.
