Gerard Martin has become a key part of Barcelona’s future under Hansi Flick and according to a recent report from Mundo Deportivo, the young defender, whose contract runs until 2025, is in discussions with the club regarding an extension.

With the possibility of him becoming a free agent in just a year, Barcelona are eager to secure his long-term future.

It is said that the talks are underway, and there are rumours that a new four-year deal is being proposed, which would include an increase in his release clause. This would be an important step to ensure the club retains him.

Work is being done

Barcelona have already held several meetings with Martin’s representatives, demonstrating the club’s desire to keep him on board. Flick’s influence has been pivotal in these discussions, as he sees Martin as a crucial part of his plans.

The young player has shown promise, having debuted against Valencia in the first round and starting in the match against Rayo Vallecano. Flick’s belief in Martin has been clear, as he continues to give him opportunities to prove himself on the pitch.

To date, the defender has made eight appearances for the first team, even contributing an assist. However, he has faced some challenges in the three games he started, where his performances fell short of expectations.

Tough road ahead

This may be due to nerves from playing at such a high level, but his potential has not gone unnoticed. Flick’s confidence in him shows that the club sees a bright future for the 22-year-old.

Barcelona are determined to finalise a new deal for Martin, ensuring he stays with the team and doesn’t leave on a free transfer when his contract expires.

With all efforts focused on securing his services, the club aims to prevent any chance of him departing, especially given the potential he has shown so far.

The proposed new contract would not only safeguard Martin’s future at the club but also give him the opportunity to continue developing under Flick’s guidance.
