Barcelona have recently announced the contract extension of La Masia starlet Fermin Lopez, who has signed a new deal that will keep him at the club until 2029.

Lopez’s contract extension came just a day after speculation linking him to three top European clubs, including Premier League duo Arsenal and Liverpool.

The new deal, therefore, should go a long way in safeguarding the youngster’s future at Barcelona.

But the Catalans are not done yet. After the renewal of Fermin, the club plan to extend the contracts of many more star players, in order to secure their long-term future in Catalonia.

Pedri: Barcelona’s priority renewal

To that end, a recent report from SPORT has reiterated that Pedri is Barcelona’s biggest priority when it comes to contract extensions.

The club have already made contact with the midfielder’s agent, assuring them of the youngster’s place in the team, not only as a star but also as a captain.

At just 21, Pedri has already taken a leadership role at Barça this season, emerging as the beating heart of Flick’s setup.

Pedri wants Barcelona stay

Pedri, for his part, is not thinking about leaving Barcelona anytime soon. He sees his long-term future in Catalonia and is eager to sign a new deal.

The report adds that Pedri has the full confidence of the technical staff, as well as the coaches and the president, Joan Laporta. He believes he can continue to flourish here.

As such, Barcelona’s idea is to tie the midfielder down to a long-term contract. In fact, a new deal for Pedri could see him extend his stay at the club until 2030.

This could go a long way in safeguarding the Spaniard’s future at the club, though it remains to be seen whether or not Barcelona face any economic difficulty in proposing a new deal.
