A recent report from Mundo Deportivo has offered a comprehensive update on Barcelona’s plans to revamp the midfield unit.
The Catalans have already identified two potential targets for the pivot position, but the club are also keen on shoring up the interior position.
That is mainly due to uncertainty over the future Ilkay Gundogan, coupled with Gavi and Pedri’s constant injury woes.
Aleix Garcia: Barcelona’s dream option in interior midfield
Mundo Deportivo suggests that Barcelona have their heart set on Aleix Garcia, in their bid to shore up the interior midfield position.
Even sporting director Deco himself confirmed in a recent interview that Barca are indeed keeping tabs on the Girona midfielder.
Garcia has been a star for the Catalan outfit this season, helping the team compete with Real Madrid for the league title.
Garcia’s technical prowess, coupled with his versatility in midfield would make him an ideal alternative for Pedri and Gavi at Barcelona next season.

Can Barcelona close the deal in the summer?
The report does mention Barcelona’s prospects to sign Aleix Garcia this summer. The player has a release clause worth €20 million.
The Blaugrana, however, value the Spaniard at around €15-16 million. Other than that, the club have several other levers to try and lower the valuation.
One of them is to add some of their unwanted stars as part of the package, in an attempt to sweeten the deal.
Eric Garcia, Oriol Romeu, and Pablo Torre are potential candidates, should Barcelona explore a player plus cash deal for Aleix Garcia. The Catalans, though, might want to retain Garcia’s services this summer, which puts Torre as the main swap candidate.
