The future of Alphonso Davies has been one of the talking points in the transfer market, with the defender’s contract at Bayern Munich expiring at the end of the season.

Barcelona have long been linked with a move for Davies, with the Catalans reportedly eyeing a free transfer. But the same can be said for their arch-rivals Real Madrid, who are also hoping to sign the Canadian on a free transfer next summer.

Meanwhile, Bayern Munich remain keen on keeping hold of Davies’ services, determined to convince the player to extend his stay in Bavaria.

Three-way battle emerging for Davies

Keeping all these factors in mind, AS reports that we may witness a three-way battle for Davies’ services, involving Barcelona, Real Madrid and Bayern Munich.

This is relevant now more than ever considering the fact that Barça have Davies back on their list of top targets.

Although the Catalans have a trusted option at left-back in the form of Alejandro Balde, it appears the club are looking to add more competition in the position.

Not to mention, Barcelona coach Hansi Flick has worked with Davies in the past and would be keen on a reunion next season.

Perhaps most importantly, it appears Barça do not want to let go of the opportunity to sign the Bayern full-back on a free transfer next summer.

Davies lowers salary demands

In a major boost for Barcelona, it appears Davies has also lowered his salary expectations, which is a key reason why the Catalans have returned to the chase.

The left-back was seeking a €15 million signing bonus and a net salary of €10 million per year but with no interested parties being willing to meet those demands, is willing to accept a lower package.

However, whether or not his demands will fit into Barcelona’s new salary structure, which has consolidated significantly since the arrival of Joan Laporta, could dictate the team’s chances in the transfer race.
