Having spent nearly five years in financial turmoil, Barcelona are desperate to return to normality this summer as they push to sell players during the 2024 transfer window and patch up the holes in the squad.
While they want to retain the ‘backbone’ of the team in Pedri, Gavi, Lamine Yamal, and Pau Cubarsi, among others, Barcelona will listen to offers for most players in the team while evaluating the future of others, like Ronald Araujo.
Araujo open to exit
Recent reports have suggested that Ronald Araujo’s entourage are not particularly happy with the renewal offer presented to them by Barcelona.
The player was promised a substantial salary increase when he decided to extend his contract with the club in 2021 on lower wages, but it seems the club have been unable to keep their promise.
As such, the club are open to offers for Araujo, with Bayern Munich’s interest looming large.
And if that was not worrying enough for Barcelona fans, Tot Costa have reported that while Barcelona plan to push for his renewal, Araujo does not rule out leaving the club in the summer in an ’emergency situation’.
What is the emergency situation?
While the situation in question has not been cleared up by the report, it would be safe to presume that should Barcelona not send in a satisfactory offer for Araujo, he could push to leave the club.
He has been at the club for over half a decade by this point, and is also the third-choice captain behind Sergi Roberto and Marc-Andre ter Stegen. He believes his contract should reflect his importance to the team.
Araujo also seems to have overcome his injury issues, and has not missed a game due to injury since returning from one earlier this season.
Bayern seem to be the frontrunner for his signature should he decide to leave, but a number of clubs from the Premier League could also enter the race.
