One of the major talking points in Barcelona this season has been the shirt sponsor for their jersey, with Nike not expected to continue beyond this season.
Barcelona president Joan Laporta had already clarified during a press conference recently that they deserved a bigger offer as they have the highest jersey sales of any club in the world.
He also claimed that Nike had breached the contract through some clauses and that the club had terminated the contract following that and informed the American brand about the same, who responded with a legal notice.
While Barcelona try to sort out this issue, they are potentially left with two choices for the jerseys next season, according to SPORT. The idea of finding a new big manufacturer – like Puma – has been ruled out due to a lack of time.
1. Continue with Nike
Nike have already improved their offer and tabled a better contract to Barcelona – which did not convince the club. They turned down the proposal, as revealed by Laporta, hoping for a higher number.
Barcelona’s first option would be to continue with Nike, who have been with the club for 27 years.
Nike will continue making kits for next season, with the design of the home and away kits already leaked in the press. Starting 2025/26, though, Barcelona could look for a different brand to team up with.
2. Make own shirts
The other, albeit risky option is to make their own shirts.
Should the contract with Nike be terminated, as Barcelona are hoping it would be, they have already prepared for the scenario that they will have to make their own shirts starting next season.
This brand will likely go under the name of BLM – Barça Licensing and Merchandising, and will help bridge the gap as Puma get ready to take over from next-to-next season.
