Following Barcelona’s recent draw against Napoli in the first leg of the UEFA Champions League, manager Xavi and former forward Thierry Henry engaged in a live conversation on the CBS Sports Golazo program, highlighting the profound mutual respect they share.
During the discussion, Henry adamantly supported Xavi’s coaching efforts at Barcelona, particularly in a season marked by substantial criticism directed towards the manager.
“I’m surprised with the work you’ve done. I don’t care what people say. You won the La Liga, so feel proud. I know you are,” said the former forward.
The former Arsenal forward added that he is very proud to have shared the field with Xavi during their Barcelona days, saying,
“I am very proud to have shared a field with you. You taught me a lot at the Barça. I will always remember the day you shut me up and said, ‘Speak when you win something with Barcelona and then you’ll understand what this club means.’ So thank you for that.”
Henry wants Xavi to come back quickly
Xavi has affirmed that he will leave his position at Barcelona at the end of the season. So far, while there have been links with a move to the Middle East, nothing is certain at the moment.
Speaking about his thoughts, Henry added that Xavi’s football knowledge is phenomenal so much so that only Pep Guardiola is above him in that regard.
“Your brain, for me, is the second; I think the only one I know above you is Pep in terms of how you watch football.
“So I hope you come back fast and we will see you on the field very quickly. I know you still have the season and all that, but you know what I’m talking about, so please come back fast,” said Henry.
Responding to Henry’s appreciation, Xavi responded by saying, “Titi, I really appreciate your words: you know I love you very much, you had a great impact at Barça and you helped us a lot. You’re a top friend.”
