Before they narrowed in on Nico Williams as the absolute priority to strengthen the left flank, FC Barcelona also held a strong interest in Liverpool and Colombia winger Luis Diaz.

Indeed, the 27-year-old attacker was very much on the agenda at the Catalan club, with reports suggesting that Barcelona director Deco saw him as a ‘dream’ signing.

Meanwhile, the Blaugrana club’s president, Joan Laporta, is also a known admirer of the Colombian international and had held talks with his agent about a possible move.

However, the Catalans eventually shifted their focus towards Nico Williams, although with his transfer looking difficult alternatives would be explored in which case Diaz’s name may have been back on the table.

Luis Diaz set to stay at Liverpool

But according to reports in England, as relayed by SPORT, Luis Diaz has made a decision to continue at Liverpool for the next season.

As such, even if Barcelona were to rekindle their interest in the 27-year-old winger this summer, the player would not arrive as he plans on continuing at Anfield under new manager Arne Slot.

Given that Barça signed Dani Olmo and continue to pursue Nico Williams, a move for Diaz was always going to be unlikely.

But with the player himself now wanting to focus on succeeding at Liverpool, there is no chance of his name returning on the table at Can Barça this summer if Nico does not join.

In that scenario, however, Barcelona are looking at Kingsley Coman of Bayern Munich as an alternative, with a loan move for the Frenchman understood to be a possibility this summer.
