Real Betis manager Manuel Pellegrini has once again addressed the situation surrounding Barcelona loanee Vitor Roque, making it clear that he hopes the Brazilian forward remains at the club for the rest of the season.

Following Betis’ narrow 0-1 defeat to Genk, where Roque was sent off with a direct red card, Pellegrini discussed the young striker’s future.

He acknowledged that while Roque is an important part of the squad, he cannot guarantee that the player will stay.

Pellegrini is ready to help

The coach expressed his support for the forward, stating that he hopes Roque can improve his finishing and overcome the pressure he seems to be facing on the pitch.

While some may see his actions as reckless, Pellegrini believes they stem from a strong desire to prove himself.

“We have to support him, he is part of the squad. Hopefully, he will stay and improve his finishing. I hope he overcomes this moment.

“We can criticize him for an excess of anxiety, but he shows his desire on the pitch. I hope he overcomes his anxiety to improve his performance,” he said as quoted by SPORT.

Despite his comments, questions regarding Roque’s future continued to dominate the press conference.

Eventually, Pellegrini made it clear that he is unable to confirm whether the Brazilian will leave or not, especially amid ongoing speculation about a possible move to Palmeiras.

“No, I cannot confirm either Vitor Roque or any other player that has left,” he added.

Contacts with Barcelona

Meanwhile, Real Betis sporting director Manu Fajardo recently admitted that there have been contacts with Barcelona regarding the forward’s potential transfer to the Brazilian club.

However, he emphasised that the decision will not be rushed, as Betis share a strong relationship with Barcelona and will not make any hasty choices that could negatively impact either club.

From Barcelona’s perspective, they are open to selling Roque, but Betis’ stance remains a crucial factor in any potential move.

Losing the player midway through the season without an immediate replacement would be a significant setback for the La Liga side.
