By now it has become abundantly clear that Barcelona president Joan Laporta wants Xavi Hernandez to continue as manager beyond this season.
The 44-year-old club legend announced in January that he would step away at the end of the season as he felt the team needed a change of dynamics.
But since his announcement, the Blaugrana have improved considerably, going on a ten-game unbeaten run, that includes two crucial wins against Napoli and Atletico Madrid.
It has led to talks of a replacement for Xavi go quiet, with the club administration now seemingly leaning towards his continuity.
Barcelona make a move to convince Xavi
Xavi, for his part, has constantly maintained that his mind his made up and he will be stepping away from the Barcelona managerial post after the season.
However, as per TV3, Barça have now made a concrete move in their bid to convince the club legend to continue.
Laporta and the Barça board are working hard to ensure that Xavi feels well-treated between now and the end of the season. That is why they have decided to hand a new role at the club to the Barça coach.
Indeed, the Blaugrana have decided Xavi will be the new ambassador of the Barça Foundation – a position also held by Alex Roca.
There will be a proper ceremony held to announce the appointment officially, which will be another sign of the club’s desire to ensure that Xavi does not leave the Barça bench.
Laporta hopes Xavi will stay
Earlier this month, during an interview, Laporta doubled down on his desire to see Xavi continue, saying that some decisions can be reversed.
“I want Xavi to stay. I have already spoken to him and I insist on that. We made a commitment with Xavi that we will talk at the end of the season. Sometimes decisions are reconsidered,” said the president.
Whether his appointment as the ambassador of the Barça Foundation influences the manager’s decision remains to be seen.
