Xavi may leave Barcelona in June anticlimactically, but the fact remains that his legacy at the club will live long. After all, the manager to come will build on the foundation he laid and the players he trusted with promotions.
Barcelona, under Xavi, has become a team with endless possibilities and highly regarded young gems. One of the latest members on the aforementioned list is Pau Cubarsi, who has made the world take notice of his confident displays in defence.
Eyeing a renewal
At just 17 years of age, the La Masia prodigy has become a regular starter for Xavi’s side ahead of Inigo Martinez. The management is more than satisfied with his progression and sees him as an integral part of the long-term project.
While his potential was known for a long time, it was Xavi who decided that he was ready to make the big leap. Just over two months after his debut, it is safe to say that he has exceeded all expectations.
According to reports from SPORT, Barcelona are aware that they will soon have to negotiate a renewal with the youngster who is seeing more limelight than ever before.
Cubarsi’s contract, as it stands, runs until the summer of 2026, giving the Catalans sufficient space to breathe. However, his rapid ascent prompts an early renewal before he finds himself on the radar of other top clubs.
Joan Laporta and Co have already made contact with the youngster’s agents and conveyed their happiness over his growth and the long-term project they envision.
No further contact has been made as of now, but it is only a matter of time before talks accelerate.
Ready to don red
Cubarsi’s performances this season have not only caught Barcelona fans by surprise but also Luis de La Fuente, the manager of the Spanish National team.
The manager is said to have included the youngster in the pre-list for the upcoming friendlies, and the protege may make the cut.
While it is indeed good news for the Blaugranas, there is a slight worry over the possible overload the player could suffer. Moreover, an international call-up will only enhance the spotlight on the youngster, further prompting Barcelona to accelerate renewal talks.
