There are various positions that have been a problem for Barcelona this season, starting with the full-backs. Joao Cancelo has largely been impressive, but Alejandro Balde’s performances have left a lot to be desired.

The defensive midfield, of course, is a huge concern. It is well-documented by this point that Barcelona will treat that role as their absolute priority in the summer, and bring in a player that suits the bill for them.

Joao Felix’s performances at left-wing have also been largely lacklustre, and Ferran Torres is probably not starter material for Barcelona in the long-term. Which means the blaugranes could be in for left-winger, too, come summer time.

Garcia for central midfield

Finally, it seems Barcelona are also interested in signing a central midfielder. One versatile enough to also cover as the pivot, but also be efficient in advanced roles, like Ilkay Gundogan.

And one of the players they have been targeting for this role is Girona’s Aleix Garcia. Barcelona have already made initial contacts to complete his signing in the summer, as per Mundo Deportivo.

The report claims that Girona are not ready to let him leave, but also know that it will be nearly impossible for the player to reject Barcelona. He has already talked about his desire to play for the Catalan giants as recently as this season.

“Obviously, I want to play for Barcelona. It is a club that I love and have followed since I was young,” the midfielder had said in December.

How much will Barcelona need to shell out

Garcia’s entourage and Girona suggest that his release clause stands at around €20 million, but Barcelona believe €14-15 million will be enough to get the deal over the line eventually.

They are also ready to include players in the deal to reduce the price. Eric Garcia, who is currently on loan there, is an option. He has had an impressive season so far, and could be pursued to join Girona permanently.

Pablo Torre can also be bartered, even though the young midfielder has not been as important or impressive as Eric so far. His potential, though, is considered sky-high, and could temp Girona.
