Fighting for a place in Barcelona’s starting lineup with Robert Lewandowski was never going to be easy for Vitor Roque.
However, the youngster was brought in as a bet for the future and a gradual incorporation was always the plan.
Since arriving in January, the former Athletico Paranaense has scored twice in La Liga, although his minutes have been highly restricted. In fact, he has played in just one of the team’s last four games.
Departure not impending
Earlier today, news of Roque’s possible departure on loan appeared on the media as the club saw it difficult to accommodate his salary given their financial fair play limit.
After all, Barcelona are still battling their trying financial situation and are could be forced into big-name departures, especially if they wish to sign players.
According to reports from Fabrizio Romano, however, Barcelona are not discussing the possibility of Roque departure, even on loan, at the moment.
Laporta, Deco and Xavi all wish to protect the player and gradually introduce him to the deep end.
Four players under risk
While Tigrinho may survive the upcoming summer transfer window, several big stars of the dressing room suddenly stare at an uncertain future at the club.
Players including Ronald Araujo, Frenkie de Jong, Robert Lewandowski and Raphinha, who were initially considered untransferable, have lost that status.
The Dutchman, in particular, has emerged as a top candidate to leave considering that his departure is the only step that can open the doors to Xavi’s dream signing.
Lewandowski, meanwhile, is focused on staying but could well see himself pushed out of the team should a tempting offer arrive. In such a scenario, Roque will undoubtedly take over as his replacement in attack.
