A long meeting between Barcelona manager Xavi and the board of directors yesterday managed to do the unthinkable – reverse the coach’s decision to leave.

As revealed last night, Xavi will stay at Barcelona until 2025 and see out his contract with the club barring any last-minute changes.

Club President Joan Laporta, in fact, is set to make an official announcement of the coach’s continuity later today.

One big change expected

Indeed, Xavi’s continuity automatically implies that his entire team will continue working on the sidelines and behind the scenes for Barcelona.

Despite rumours of his exit floating around, the manager’s brother Oscar Hernandez also appears set to continue.

Mundo Deportivo confirms the same in a recent report and states that there will be no major changes in Xavi’s coaching staff despite the rumours calling for the sacking of the assistant coach and the physical trainer.

Nevertheless, one possible recruitment or change that is not ruled out is the appointment of a new member in the physiotherapy unit and understandably so, given the players’ struggles with fitness this year.

The only logical decision

The news of Xavi’s continuity arrives as music to the ears of millions of fans across the globe. However, it is a fact that it was the only logical decision for the board to take ahead of next season.

After all, Xavi has the players’ backing like none other and the same is seen in the way the players defend their manager.

Moreover, the majority of the board members including Joan Laporta, Rafa Yuste, Deco and Alejandro Echevarria are staunch believers in his abilities.

With Barcelona taking important strides this year, it remains to be seen how Xavi will handle the pressure next year. While he may be a good candidate for the job, he too has areas to improve after all.
